A brief look at the Varkari pilgrimage to Pandarpur. This video shows a few minutes of pilgrims as they streamed into Pune on the evening of 5 June 2010 accompanying the palanquin, or Palki, of Saint Tukaram. We estimate that there were 10,000 pilgrims in this group, singing and dancing in the rain. They walk more than 100 miles to the holy pilgrimage town of Pandarpur at this time every year (and some walk a second time each year), in the rainy season when the agricultural work is light.
